About 4:40 p.m., firefighters were called to a blaze that started in a carport in the 4800 block of Heil Avenue, a Fire Department spokesman said.
About 27 firefighters took 35 minutes to control the fire, which gutted the carport and nine cars before spreading to the apartments.
No injuries were reported but the fire caused $100,000 in damage, the spokesman said.
