Apria Healthcare’s Earnings Rise in 2nd Quarter

COSTA MESA — Apria Healthcare Group Inc. reported sharply higher second-quarter earnings on a 7% gain in revenue.
The home health-care provider reported that net income for the second quarter increased to $21.9 million, or 42 cents a share, from $4.5 million, or 9 cents a share, for the same quarter of 1995. The second quarter a year ago included $14.4 million of nonrecurring charges related to the merger of Abbey Healthcare Group Incorporated and Homedco Group, Inc. and a $3 million extraordinary charge on debt refinancing. Revenue was up 7% to $306.6 million from $287.3 million.
For the first half, net income more than doubled to $42.2 million, or 81 cents a share, from $20.3 million, or 41 cents a share, for the corresponding six months of 1995. Revenue grew 5% to $601.9 million from $571.9 million.
