Police homicide detectives Saturday were investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl whose body was found beneath her baby-sitter’s residence in South-Central Los Angeles.
The child’s baby-sitter, 56, “admitted herself to a local mental hospital,” police said without elaboration in a statement. The baby-sitter’s identity was not released, and further details were scarce.
The motive in the case is unknown and there are no suspects in custody, police said.
The dead girl was identified as Jaq Pope. A coroner’s spokesman said a cause of death had not been determined.
The baby-sitter’s son reported the girl missing Friday evening, police said, prompting officers to converge at the home in the 5300 block of Compton Avenue.
Officers discovered the toddler’s body, wrapped in sheets, beneath the home later Friday night, authorities said.
