LAS VEGAS — A Los Angeles man was struck and killed by a pickup truck just minutes after he attended his son’s wedding here, authorities said.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said Sergio Caseiro, 73, was trying to cross Las Vegas Boulevard on Saturday night to buy jewelry for his son and daughter-in-law when he was struck by the pickup.
“It looks like [the pickup driver] was not speeding,” said trooper Steve Harney. “He just never saw the victim, who was jaywalking illegally across the street.”
Caseiro was knocked about 100 feet and pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver, Anthony Semenza, 41, of Las Vegas, was unharmed.
The accident occurred just minutes after the victim attended his son’s wedding at the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel.
A trauma intervention team was called to the scene to assist family members who were in shock, Harney said.
