A suspected drunk driver led sheriff’s deputies on a chase from Camarillo to Ventura at speeds of up to 70 mph late Monday morning.
About 10:50 a.m., Sheriff’s Department detectives in Camarillo noticed a white Chevrolet Blazer weaving near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Lewis Road and tried to pull over its driver.
After failing to stop, the vehicle headed west down Ventura Boulevard and merged onto the northbound Ventura Freeway.
Despite deputies’ repeated attempts to stop the Blazer by flashing their lights and blaring their sirens, the vehicle continued north at normal freeway speeds of 60 to 70 mph, merging onto California 33 northbound on the western edge of Ventura.
The vehicle exited the highway at Shell Road, finally stopping near the intersection of Ventura Avenue and McKee Street.
William Vaughn, 42, of Ventura was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest, driving under the influence, possession of narcotics and having outstanding out-of-state arrest warrants.
He was booked into Ventura County Jail, with bail set at $10,000.
