SCC Advances to Final in Men’s Soccer Playoffs

Southern California College advanced to the championship game of the Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer playoffs with a 2-1 upset over two-time defending champion Westmont Tuesday in Santa Barbara.
The Vanguards (9-8-1) will play at Azusa Pacific at 6 p.m. Saturday. Westmont, which placed first in the Coastal Division, finished 14-5-2.
SCC, which earlier lost to Westmont, 4-0, while finishing second in the Inland Division, scored both its goals in the first half. Michael Ditta converted a penalty kick 11 minutes into the game and Martin Lippens scored on a fast break at the 30-minute mark.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:
Westmont 1, Southern California College 0 (2 OT)--Westmont (14-4-1, 8-0) avoided the upset when Stephanie Herival scored in the 95th minute. Ricia Gonnering had nine saves for the visiting Eagles (10-8-1, 2-5-1).
