Flow of Truck Traffic Resumes

Traffic flowed again through France as truckers, flashing victory signs, cleared their last roadblocks, leaving industry and politicians to assess the cost of their 12-day strike. Champagne corks popped as the truckers celebrated wage and retirement concessions won from haulers and the government, and headed for home or completed deliveries nearly two weeks late. The strike had forced some factories to close for lack of materials and cut food supplies. More than half the country’s 18,000 gas stations had or were about to run dry during the strike, and industry sources said it would take up to a week to fully resupply all of them.
