Goalie Hebert Sits Out as a Precaution

Goaltender Guy Hebert spent a rare game out of uniform Wednesday after doctors in Anaheim diagnosed a mild concussion after he was accidentally hit in the head Monday night by the stick of Boston’s Troy Mallette.

“We’ll see how it feels [today] and I hope to play Friday night. That’s my plan,” said Hebert, who said doctors told him to sit out Wednesday as a precaution.

With Hebert out, backup Mikhail Shtalenkov played and Mike O’Neill was called up from the Long Beach Ice Dogs as the emergency backup.

Long Beach’s proximity to Anaheim allowed O’Neill, 29, to get another game of NHL experience, the 21st of his career.

“I got the call last night, and it’s a situation where if I was back in Baltimore it probably wouldn’t have happened,” O’Neill said. The Baltimore Bandits are the Ducks’ main minor-league affiliate, but the team placed a few players with the Ice Dogs this season for convenience.

Left wing Shawn Antoski, who has played only one game since being acquired from Pittsburgh on Nov. 19, has been put on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 21. Antoski suffered a hip strain against the Islanders on Nov. 20 in his only appearance.
