Chamber Joins Area Internet Project

The Calabasas Chamber of Commerce office buzzed with excitement Friday as workers linked an office computer to the Internet--part of a Valleywide telecommunications project.
In an effort to bring Valley-area chambers on-line, the Economic Alliance for the San Fernando Valley has established a World Wide Web home page that will allow chambers to create their own pages unique to their membership.
The project is being funded by a $20,000 grant from the Pacific Bell Foundation, which provided the computers and Internet training where needed.
Calabasas chamber officials said they were delighted with the possibilities the project offers, opportunities that would have been beyond their reach.
The project’s main home page contains information about government officials, a business resources guide and a tourist guide of the San Fernando Valley.
Chamber members will be able to access the page at chamber offices or through their own computers.
The Economic Alliance is a consortium of the Valley Economic Development Center, Valley Industry and Commerce Assn., United Chambers of Commerce and the Small Manufacturers Assn.
Other chambers that will be a part of the project are: Arleta, Canoga Park/West Hills, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Mission Hills, Northridge, Pacoima, San Fernando, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sun Valley, Sunland/Tujunga, Sylmar, Universal City/North Hollywood, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.
When they are complete and on-line, the individual chamber Web sites can be accessed through the project’s main page at https://www.sfvalley.org
