Assemblyman Robert Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks) will be the featured speaker Friday at a breakfast meeting of the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance, where he will discuss his goals for the coming year.
Hertzberg will also face questions about the renewed effort in the state Legislature to allow the Valley to secede from Los Angeles, said Barbara Creme, director of the alliance’s Jewish Community Relations Committee.
Though the alliance has not taken a stand on the issue, its membership is interested in hearing Hertzberg’s opinions, Creme said.
Hertzberg’s 40th Assembly District includes Van Nuys and parts of Canoga Park, Encino, North Hollywood, Northridge, Panorama City, Reseda, Sherman Oaks and Studio City.
From 1991 to 1995, Hertzberg chaired the Dean’s Council at Hebrew Union College and was vice president of the American Jewish Committee.
The alliance asked Hertzberg to speak in an effort to determine the role he might play in getting Jews involved in local politics, Creme said.
“It is a goal of what we are doing in the Valley Alliance to more actively involve the Jewish community in political life,” she said.
The discussion is sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Committee and the Business and Professions division of the Valley Alliance.
A $6 continental breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday, at Temple Judea, 5429 Lindley Ave. For reservations, call (818) 587-3203 or 587-3206.
