In other conference men’s games:
Irvine Valley 81, Golden West 70--Golden West led, 56-55, at the end of the first half, but Irvine Valley came back to take the lead for good after Daryl Todd’s three-pointer with 7:53 left to play.
Todd scored 25 points and seven rebounds to lead Irvine Valley (14-5, 1-0). Ray Jammerson had a game-high 30 points for Golden West (5-12, 0-1).
Rancho Santiago 94, Orange Coast 82--Lohnnie Tape had 27 points and 10 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (12-4, 1-0). Vlad Nieto scored 21 points and Mark Saukkola had 18 for the Dons. Rancho Santiago made 22 of 28 free throws. David Downs had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Orange Coast (10-6, 0-1).
Riverside 90, Saddleback 84--Kareem Farmer scored 19 points as Riverside defeated Saddleback in the conference opener. Aaron Owens and Danny Sampson each scored 14 points for the Tigers (14-6, 1-0).
Brian Scoggin scored 15 points for Saddleback (9-7, 0-1). Scott Duffy scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds for the Gauchos.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:
Fullerton 63, Cypress 58--Fullerton used a 16-1 run early in the second half to open a 54-33 lead then hung on for the victory.
Cypress got as close as three, 59-56, with 2:05 left on a basket by Linda Rodriguez.
Michelle deBruijn (17 points) had two key free throws and an assist on a back-door basket in the final three minutes for Fullerton (12-7, 1-0). Paola Flores made a 10-footer with 27 seconds left to give Fullerton a 63-58 lead. Angie Baca had 19, including a layup with 57 seconds left to give Fullerton a 61-56 lead.
Janine Shaw had 26 points, including five three-pointers for Cypress (13-5, 0-1).
Rancho Santiago 68, Orange Coast 45--Rancho Santiago (14-3, 1-0) outrebounded Orange Coast 53-18. Antoinette Thompson grabbed 20 rebounds and scored 14 points and Chanel Neal grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 13 points for the Dons (13-6, 0-1).
