Officers Kill Man in Shootout at House

Two LAPD officers responding to a domestic violence call fatally wounded a man who fired several shots at them in the Jefferson Park area, authorities said Friday.

Officers Emerson Holden, 32, and Orlando Fletcher, 22, had come to a house on West 29th Street on Thursday night at the request of a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was on his way to kill her.

Shortly after they arrived at 8:40 p.m., the ex-boyfriend’s speeding car screeched to a halt in front of the house. He quickly got a gun from the trunk, police said.

Holden, an eight-year veteran of the LAPD, ordered the man to drop the gun. The man immediately began shooting at both officers, who returned the fire, police said. The man, who name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died. Neither officer was wounded.

The woman said she had been involved in an ongoing domestic violence situation with her ex-boyfriend, and he had just telephoned her to tell her he was heading there. She had previously obtained a restraining order against the man, police said.
