Family YMCA to Host Open House

The Verdugo Hills Family YMCA is inviting the public to tour its facilities and learn about the community programs during its annual open house today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those who attend the open house can sign up for a free one-week membership, said Executive Director Nancy Becker.

“Many people don’t know that we have a preschool or even a swimming pool,” said Becker. “Everyone is welcome to come in and see what we have to offer.”

The Verdugo Hills YMCA, located at 6840 Foothill Blvd., in Tujunga, is a branch of the larger Crescenta-Canada Family YMCA.

In addition to its preschool, the Verdugo Hills YMCA offers an after-school program for older children, swimming, “watoga” (water yoga) classes and a host of other activities. The facility was recently equipped with more than a dozen state-of-the-art exercise machines designed for use by seniors as well as younger people, Becker said.
