Plans for New Arena ‘Down to Details’

Because of delays in choosing a site, the proposed new arena to be shared by the Kings and Lakers won’t be ready to open in the fall of 1999, as originally planned. That date “is possible but not probable unless we were able to get going in an incredible hurry,” said Bob Sanderman, chief executive officer of the Kings. “It would be more realistic to do it properly for the summer of 2000.”
Tim Leiweke, the Kings’ president, said the final arrangements “are down to details” and might be completed in two or three weeks. The cities of Los Angeles and Inglewood are vying for the arena.
