The uprights at Foxboro Stadium will remain just that, upright, after the AFC championship game, authorities promised Friday as they shored up their offense against unruly fans.
“We’re all expecting the Patriots are going to win,” said state police Lt. Martin Fay, commander of the Foxboro barracks. “Part of our problem is to keep the fans off the field.”
At the last big victory celebration at Foxboro, where the Patriots clinched a playoff spot in 1985, overenthusiastic fans tore down a goal post and carried it out of the stadium, where it touched a live wire and shocked several people.
Courts have awarded millions of dollars in damages to injured fans since.
