Fullove Gives Newbury Park Its Fill, 67-53

Branduinn Fullove scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half Friday, and unbeaten Simi Valley High rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Newbury Park, 67-53, in a Marmonte League basketball game at Simi Valley.
Fullove, who also had seven rebounds, scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Pioneers (14-0, 4-0 in league) overcame the Panthers’ 31-27 halftime advantage and assumed a 48-40 lead heading into the final quarter. Simi Valley held Newbury Park (9-7, 2-2) to nine points in the quarter.
Rafael Beruman had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers.
Daniel Bobik led Newbury Park with 14 points.
Harvard-Westlake 77, St. Francis 45--Guard Rico Cabrera led the Wolverines (17-1, 2-0) with 19 points and six steals in a Mission League game at St. Francis.
Channel Islands 88, Thousand Oaks 81--Val Blue scored 10 of his 17 points in the second overtime as the Raiders (11-3, 1-3) rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.
Charles Merricks had 27 points for Channel Islands.
Agoura 83, Camarillo 59--Marcus Helfman scored 22 points for the Chargers (6-6, 3-1) in the Marmonte League game.
Royal 68, Westlake 61--Nick Flanagan had 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Highlanders (10-6, 2-2) in a Marmonte League game at Royal. Ryan Neilsen scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Royal.
Jake Stewart had 14 points for Westlake (8-7, 1-3).
Palmdale 52, Chaminade 50--Markus Carr sank a 15-foot shot from the corner with two seconds left to lift the Falcons (10-7) in the nonleague game at Palmdale.
Burroughs 73, Saugus 57--J.K. Scott had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the host Indians (9-8), who recovered from a slow start in the Foothill League opener.
Hart 55, Canyon 51--Bryan Kirk scored 14 points and Jeff Whitmore had 11 for the Indians (12-5) in a Foothill League opener at Canyon. Steve Eernisse scored 27 points for Canyon (8-6).
Bell-Jeff 66, La Salle 58--Ruben Douglas had 33 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and six steals to power the Guards (9-6, 3-0) in the Santa Fe League game at Bell-Jeff.
Ventura 69, Hueneme 46--Christian Gallagher scored 19 points--before sitting out the fourth quarter--and the Cougars (8-6, 2-1) cruised to victory in the Channel League game at home.
Buena 47, Oxnard 38--Ian Boys had 11 points and 10 rebounds to help the Bulldogs (8-5, 1-2) win a Channel League game.
Santa Clara 55, Santa Paula 43--Nick Jones had 18 points and Peter Lee added 12 for the Saints (8-4) in a Frontier League opener at Santa Clara.
Pasadena 69, Hoover 67--The Tornadoes (5-10) rallied from a 22-point third-quarter deficit to take a two-point lead with a minute to play, but couldn’t hold on in the Pacific League opener.
Grant 56, Granada Hills 51--Gilbert Arenas had 23 points and eight rebounds and the Lancers (3-9) shot 60% from the field during a nonleague victory over the Highlanders (8-6) at Grant.
Calabasas 82, Nordhoff 78--Ryan Coleman, who had 31 points and 10 assists, hit four free throws in the second overtime of the Frontier League opener to help the Coyotes edge Nordhoff (5-9).
GIRLS
Crescenta Valley 78, Glendale 30--Michelle Greco had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons (13-2, 1-0) in a Pacific League opener at Crescenta Valley.
Freshman Sinnamonn Garrett had 20 points and 19 rebounds for Crescenta Valley.
Nordhoff 47, Calabasas 34--The Rangers (12-3) made nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to preserve a victory in the Frontier League opener at Calabasas.
Erin Barker had 22 points, including 10 of 14 free throws. Alyssa Love led Calabasas (7-5) with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Moorpark 75, Malibu 20--Demaris Hinojosa had 18 points and seven steals and Tracey Milburn had 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead the Musketeers (13-1, 1-0) in a Frontier League game.
Paraclete 69, St. Bonaventure 25--Kim Whisler had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Alicia Parra scored 13 for the Spirits (9-2) in a nonleague game at Paraclete.
Monroe 53, Cleveland 49--Shirlee Low had four three-point baskets and 22 points for the Vikings (4-7) in a nonleague game at Cleveland. Stacey Harris led Cleveland (1-10) with 22 points.
Hart 65, Canyon 41--Candice Boller had 14 points to lead the Indians in a Foothill League opener at Hart. Valerie Wiggins led the Cowboys (5-8, 0-1) with 18 points, and Janetta Garcia had 12.
