Valley Turns to Barlow, for Now

VAN NUYS — After five years as offensive coordinator, Gary Barlow is in charge of the Valley College football program.
At least through Spring.
Chuck Ferrero, Valley’s athletic director, on Friday chose Barlow to direct the Monarchs during spring workouts after Coach Jim Fenwick was hired to head the Cal State Northridge program.
Barlow, who oversaw Valley’s potent run-and-shoot offense, assumes Fenwick’s teaching load at Valley on a substitute basis starting Monday.
Ferrero said the school will conduct interviews in the summer to find Fenwick’s permanent replacement.
“In the summer our plan is, after going through the shared governance process, to have this position as a fall probationary position,” Ferrero said.
Barlow, an All-Big West lineman at Pacific in 1988 and 1989, played briefly with the New York Giants and in the World Football League with the Barcelona Dragons.
