Garden Grove Holds On, Beats Santiago

Garden Grove opened a 10-point lead at halftime and went on to beat Santiago, 43-36, in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Friday at Garden Grove.

Lorena Davis scored 12 points and Katie Werdel scored 10 for Garden Grove (5-10, 1-0), which was ahead, 30-20, at the half.

Stacey Trujillo scored 10 points for Santiago (6-11, 0-2).

In other Garden Grove League games:

Pacifica 69, Los Amigos 33--Mindy McCurdy had 16 points and six steals and Jaymee Pendergast finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Pacifica.

Rancho Alamitos 39, Bolsa Grande 30--Araceli Hernandez scored 12 points for Rancho Alamitos. Mary Petrie had 14 points for Bolsa Grande.

In the Newport Harbor/Corona del Mar girls’ water polo tournament:

Newport Harbor 14, Capistrano Valley 4--Alden Moore scored eight goals to lead Newport Harbor (8-3). Erin Kennedy had 13 saves for the Sailors.
