PLACENTIA — One man was killed and another was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving when the truck they were riding in careened out of control and hit a light pole, police said.
The crash occurred at 11 p.m. Saturday as the two men were in a 1995 truck traveling south on Melrose Street, approaching Orangethorpe Avenue at high speed, said Sgt. Ken Gardner of the Placentia Police Department.
A passenger, Jose Gabriel Jurado, 21, of Anaheim, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was pronounced dead at the scene, Gardner said.
The driver, Eduardo Garcia, 21, also of Anaheim, was taken to Placentia Linda Community Hospital and treated for a dislocated elbow and abrasions and then arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, Gardner said.
