FULLERTON — The Fearsome Foursome patrolled the defensive line for the Los Angeles Rams from 1963 to 1966 and became one of the most revered group of linemen ever assembled in the NFL.
Three of the four, Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier and Deacon Jones, will participate in a fund-raiser for the fourth, former teammate Lamar Lundy, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Cal State Fullerton. Lundy has prostate cancer.
The Southern California Pro Football Festival at Titan Stadium is planned as a football carnival of sorts, in which fans can punt, pass, kick and catch with former pros.
They can kick field goals with former kicker Mike Lansford or catch a pass from former quarterback Vince Ferragamo. There will be plenty of photo opportunities, said organizer Pete Donovan.
Among the former Rams expected to attend are Jack Youngblood, Dick Bass and Johnnie Johnson. Former Chicago Bear linebacker Dick Butkus also has said he will attend, as will former Ram coaches John Robinson, Chuck Knox and Harland Svare.
“This is a way to help Lamar pay those bills and bring back some of the best memories of the NFL to our fans,” Olsen said.
When Grier retired after the 1966 season, he was replaced by Roger Brown and the unit played together two more seasons. Brown said he will attend the fund-raiser.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20 for adults and $10 for children under 16. Donovan said an autograph table also will be set up and prices for signatures would be nominal.
