Artists Guild to Celebrate 50th Year

The Valley Artists Guild, an organization made up of artists and art lovers, will celebrate the beginning of its 50th year as a forum for the exploration of art at its monthly meeting Sunday.
A local sculptor established the guild in 1948 as a place where artists could gather to discuss their work and different art-related issues, guild spokesman Michael Donegan said.
“It’s a great group. The people could not be friendlier,” said Donegan, who retired from his job as a manager of a food-service company several years ago to pursue a career as a professional artist.
The group, made up of about 65 members, hosts monthly meetings featuring demonstrations by professional artists.
Sunday’s meeting, which will be open to the public, will feature a demonstration by oil painter Eva Margarite Bonham. The event will begin with a 12:30 p.m. luncheon at the Lamplighter restaurant, 6043 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys. The cost is $12.50 for the luncheon and demonstration, or $5 for the demonstration only.
