A single-family residence being remodeled was heavily damaged Friday after an early morning blaze broke out in the garage and spread to the attic, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department said.
Officials estimated the loss to the two-story residence, located in the 4500 block of Willens Avenue, to be $75,000, Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The Fire Department received a call at 2:46 a.m. and arrived to find the garage fully engulfed and flames spreading into the attic, Humphrey said. It took 20 firefighters 28 minutes to knock down the fire.
Ten firefighters returned to the scene at 6:25 a.m. to deal with smoldering debris, Humphrey said.
There were no injuries. The source of the fire was under investigation, Humphrey said.
