MCA Signs Deal for Hendrix Music
Seagram Co.’s MCA Records unit in Universal City said it signed a long-term licensing agreement to distribute music by Jimi Hendrix, including some previously unreleased material. The agreement with family-owned Experience Hendrix gives the family creative control over Hendrix’s music. Both companies declined to disclose financial details. The companies plan to release new and remastered music beginning in April on CDs made from first-generation original masters. MCA Records also will create a record label for which the family will seek to sign and develop new artists. Experience Hendrix will release a magazine and a Web site about the late musician later this week.
