Titans Lose Williams for 4 Weeks

FULLERTON — John Williams, the leading scorer and rebounder for the Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball team, has a broken bone in his right wrist and probably will be on out at least four weeks, an athletic department spokesman said Wednesday.
Mel Franks said the broken bone was revealed in a scan this week. Williams, averaging 17.6 points and seven rebounds, did not make the trip to Idaho Wednesday.
The Titans (10-6, 3-3 in the Big West) play at Idaho tonight and at Boise State Saturday night.
Williams missed Saturday’s game against UC Irvine, which the Titans won, 89-57.
Williams slipped on a wet spot on the floor at Titan Gym in the second half of last Thursday’s game against Utah State, and fell on the wrist.
The status of Craig Whitehead, another starting forward who has missed the last two games because of a strained groin, remains questionable, although he made the trip.
Coach Bob Hawking started sophomore Mark Richardson at Williams’ power forward position, along with guards Chris Dade, Chris St. Clair and Ali Nayab and center DeVaughn Wright against Irvine. Richardson had 10 points and five rebounds in the game.
