Mayor Outlines Top Goals for 1997
New Mayor Glenn G. Parker said one of his goals in office is to help residents live up to the city’s motto for 1997: “Brea--Catch the Spirit.”
“A lot of people ask me what that means,” he said. “To me it means citizenship, volunteerism . . . family, friends, neighbors and the future.”
Parker spoke about the motto at a recent City Council meeting and presented his top five priorities for the year: to meet economic goals for the new Community Center; complete downtown improvements; revisit and update the sphere of influence plan; develop a plan to enhance reserve funds; and improve public safety.
The mayor’s position rotates among council members each year, and the mayor chooses a city motto for the year.
