Four-Star Films : ‘GoodFellas’
This 1990 release is perhaps the ultimate Martin Scorsese movie: His bravura look at the lower levels of the New York Mafia, seen through the eyes of Irish-Italian American “wise guy” turned informant Henry Hill (Ray Liotta, right). Scorsese carries us from the ‘50s through the ‘80s, with a virtuosic use of camera style and background music. The cast, particularly Robert De Niro (left) and Joe Pesci as two marvelously paranoid hoods, are sensational (HBO Sunday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 11:45 p.m.).
Other selected four-star films airing this week:
A Hard Day’s Night / AMC, Sunday, 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Oliver! / Cinemax, Tuesday, 7 a.m.
Atlantic City / TMC, Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.
Ruggles of the Red Gap / AMC, Wednesday, noon.
The Killers / AMC, Saturday, 4:15 p.m.
