Laguna Beach needed a goal to win its first league title since 1988 and got it when Whitworth cut into the penalty area and headed a throw-in from Seth Simchowitz into the net. It gave the Artists a 1-1 tie with second-place Estancia and clinched the title. Whitworth also had two goals in a 3-0 victory over Costa Mesa.
Tobin Junowich/Soccer/Midfielder
* Newport Harbor, senior. Had three assists in a 3-2 victory over El Toro that clinched the Sea View League title.
Eric Palmer/Basketball/Guard
* University, junior. Made 11 three-pointers, tying the county record, and scored 43 in an 88-79 loss to Aliso Viejo.
Dennis Wisco/Basketball/Guard
* Servite, senior. Averaged 13.5 points and 11.5 in three victories that helped Servite to the Golden West League title.
