Orange Coast Shuts Out Palomar

Jamie Surdock and Jim Sipkovich combined on a four-hitter to help Orange Coast defeat Palomar, 3-0, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Palomar.
Surdock went six innings, giving up two hits, striking out three and walking none. Sipkovich earned his first save for Orange Coast (7-7).
Craig Ritter doubled, then Bobby Calderon drove him home with a double in the third inning.
In other nonconference games:
Fullerton 16, L.A. Valley 6--Erik Gomez had three hits and five runs batted in, Keith Jones hit his fourth home run and Brian Logan hit his third home run for host Fullerton (12-3), which scored seven runs in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Rancho Santiago 17, San Diego 6--Josh Reding had three hits and three RBIs and Joe Secoda went three for three with one RBI for Rancho Santiago (12-1).
Saddleback 11, San Diego Mesa 1--Kirk Bolling had three doubles and drove in four runs for visiting Saddleback (12-0). Ryan Ruiz and Nick Punto each had three hits for Saddleback.
The Gauchos used eight pitchers, with Mike Kleckner (1-0) working the fifth to get the victory.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Saddleback 9, Cypress 0--Gaby Rios won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Erika Dommeyer to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2, for host Saddleback (2-2, 1-0).
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Orange Coast 5, Long Beach 4--Martha Garcia and Trishia Streelman posted straight-set victories, then teamed to win in doubles, 8-5, for Orange Coast (3-0).
