St. Mary’s Beats San Francisco in West Coast Tournament Final

Center Brad Millard had a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds as St. Mary’s defeated San Francisco, 66-59, Monday night in the West Coast Conference tournament championship game at Loyola Marymount.
St. Mary’s, 23-7 overall and the WCC’s co-champion in the regular season with Santa Clara, extended its winning streak to a school-record nine games in gaining the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
St. Mary’s has made two other NCAA tournament appearances--losing a first-round game to Clemson in 1989, while winning once before falling to California in 1959.
Millard, a 7-foot-3, 345-pound sophomore, was the tournament’s most valuable player. He had 49 points in three games.
San Francisco (16-13), playing in its first WCC tournament final, was led by John Duggan, who made four three-point shots and had 16 points.
