Waves Rally to Beat Fresno State

Tyler Ferrer’s two-run, sixth-inning double broke a tie score and lifted Pepperdine to a 10-9 victory over Fresno State in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Pepperdine.
The Waves (7-10) notched their third consecutive victory after rallying from deficits of 5-0 and 6-1. Ferrer’s game-winning hit capped a four-run rally that began with Fresno State (9-11) holding an 8-6 lead.
In the ninth, Fresno State loaded the bases and scored a run on a wild pitch by reliever A.J. Samadani. Samadani, however, got a groundout to end the game and record his first save. John Workman (1-2) pitched two innings to earn the victory.
In other baseball games:
Ventura 13, Cuesta 5--Jeremy Pierce drove in five runs and Dustin Tubb (6-0) scattered eight hits while going the distance for the Pirates (13-4, 2-1) in a Western State Conference game at Ventura.
Bakersfield 19, Pierce 1--Jim Landress had two hits, including a double, for the Brahmas (6-11, 0-3), who committed eight errors in a WSC game at Pierce.
Oxnard 12, Moorpark 8--Nate Janowicz of Moorpark (0-3 in conference play) was three for five, including a two-run triple, in a WSC game at Moorpark. Oxnard is 9-8, 2-1 in conference play.
Mission 11, Valley 6--Jose Sandoval had two doubles and drove in three runs for the Free Spirit (8-9, 2-1) in a WSC game at El Cariso Park in Sylmar.
Tony Pulido drove in three runs for Mission.
Steve Guerrero had two doubles and three RBIs for Valley (1-13-3, 0-3).
Glendale 11, Canyons 8--The Vaqueros (12-6, 2-1) scored three runs in the seventh inning to break an 8-8 tie in a WSC game at Glendale.
Sheldon Philip-Guide of Glendale was four for five with two RBIs, including a two-run home run. David Boger had a two-run home run and three RBIs. Shawn Lange (6-1) scattered nine hits.
The Master’s 3, Point Loma 0--Jim Young had a home run and a double and drove in three runs for the Mustangs (7-13) in a nonconference game at Master’s.
SOFTBALL
Pierce 5, Valley 4--Kelli Mormon’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Esmeralda Macias and lifted the Brahmas (7-8, 1-0) in a WSC game at Pierce.
Moorpark 6, Cuesta 4--Megan Garrison hit a three-run home run and Alicia Ramos doubled, tripled and drove in two runs for the Raiders (7-9, 1-0) in a WSC game at Moorpark.
Canyons 9, Santa Barbara 1--Mika Cooper doubled, tripled and had three RBIs for the Cougars (5-8, 1-0) in a WSC game at Santa Barbara that was called after five innings because of the eight-run lead rule.
