Sunny Hills

Coach: Tim Devaney (11th year).
1996: 16-2 in freelance schedule; finished second at the Southern Section team championship and fourth at CIF-SCGA.
Key returners: Mike Kim, Sr.; Philip Lee, first-team all-county, Jr., Jin Park, first-team all-county, Sr.; John Park, Sr., Dusty Schmidt, So.
Key newcomers: Jason Kim, Jr.; Randy Miller, Jr.; Jeff Park, So., Brian Sigler, So.
Outlook: The Lancers have joined the Empire League after years of freelancing and immediately become the favorites. Of course, they would be favored in almost any league. Despite the loss of Terry Noe to graduation, Sunny Hills shouldn’t lose any ground. Jin Park, who has signed with Arizona State, is one of the best players in the county, and all of the others are capable of posting low scores. For instance, Mike Kim matched Park with a one-over 36 at Redlands Country Club and had a hole in one. “The kids pretty much feel they kind of let things slip away last season,” Devaney said. “This year, they seem a little more team-oriented, although it’s hard to tell with golfers.”
