UCLA Doesn’t Want to Sound Like a Broken Record, but . . .

Last week, you published a letter regarding UCLA’s attendance figures and the writer questioned the new records in Pauley Pavilion. Here are the facts behind the increased numbers:
In 1993, Pauley’s bleacher system was replaced. The new bleachers have 82 additional seats each, increasing the capacity by 328. In addition, as is the practice in the industry, we add a number to our actual ticket stub count that accounts for event staff, security personnel, media, officials and participants. A few years ago, we began having our staff count ticket stubs. Before that, attendance was estimated.
Let me assure the writer that no one sat down and developed a plan to announce record attendances. Ticket requests, student sales and other demands for the USC and Duke games were some of the highest in recent years.
