Long Beach State (13-14) trailed at halftime, 54-36, after New Mexico State had made eight of 13 three-point attempts. The 49ers used a 23-11 run to close the gap to 65-59 with 7:53 left, but New Mexico State (19-8) regained control, made its free throws and ended Long Beach State’s disappointing season.
