Deadline Nears for Down Payment Aid

The deadline for first-time home buyers in Ventura County to apply for down payment grants has been extended until Friday.
First-time home buyers who make less than $60,000 a year may qualify for down payment assistance from Affordable Housing USA, a nonprofit organization with a local chapter in Oxnard.
About 100 grants, ranging from $1,200 to $4,000 each, will be awarded, said Steve Carrigan, director of the nonprofit group. The grant money, which is derived entirely from nonprofit foundations, does not have to be paid back, he said.
Grant applications will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Affordable Housing USA, 235 W. 7th St. in Oxnard. For information, call (818) 888-0101.
