SEASON AT A GLANCE: Kay established himself as the area’s best all-around player with an outstanding postseason. The 5-foot-10 midfielder, who has signed to play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, finished with 13 goals and 12 assists. He began the season at sweeper, but moved to the midfield in early January and helped the Highlanders win their final 16 games and the Marmonte and Southern Section Division I titles.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Kay scored Royal’s first two goals on headers in a 3-1 semifinal upset last Tuesday of previously unbeaten Santa Ana. In Friday’s title match against Fountain Valley, he scored in the 50th minute, then moved to sweeper to help secure a 1-0 victory.
