The Royal High boys’ volleyball team begins defense of its Marmonte League championship against Thousand Oaks in a league opener at 6:30 tonight at Thousand Oaks.
Royal (1-0) features outside hitter Marc Chaffee, middle blocker Ryan Denihan and setter John Baxter.
Thousand Oaks has not played any best-of-five-game matches, but the Lancers won the championship of the Ventura tournament last weekend behind tournament most valuable player Shane Maguire.
Other events today involving teams from the region include:
Men’s volleyball: At 7 p.m., San Diego Mesa at Pierce.
Women’s tennis: At 1:30 p.m., Purdue at Pepperdine.
High school baseball: At 3:15 p.m., La Canada at Glendale, Desert Christian vs. Paraclete at Tujunga Senior Field. At 6:30 p.m., Crescenta Valley vs. St. Francis at Brookside Park.
High school golf: At 1 p.m., Channel Islands vs. Simi Valley at Simi Hills GC.
High school swimming/diving: At 3 p.m., Saugus at Quartz Hill, Camarillo vs. Royal at Rancho Simi Pool, Littlerock vs. Paraclete at McAdams Pool. At 3:15 p.m., Westlake at Thousand Oaks, Channel Islands at Agoura.
Boys’ tennis: At 2:30 p.m., Sherman Oaks CES at Sylmar, Garfield at Reseda, Simi Valley at Newbury Park, Camarillo at Agoura, Villanova Prep at Nordhoff.
High school track and field: At 3 p.m., Agoura at Calabasas. At 3:15 p.m., South Pasadena vs. Hart at College of the Canyons. At 4 p.m., Royal at Moorpark.
Boys’ volleyball: At 2:30 p.m., Eagle Rock at Sylmar. At 3:30 p.m., Flintridge Prep at Burbank. At 6:30 p.m., Westlake at Newbury Park, Camarillo at Agoura, Channel Islands at Simi Valley. At 7:30 p.m., Valencia at Campbell Hall. Providence tournament--At 3:15 p.m., Providence vs. Marshall, Oakwood vs. La Canada. At 4:30 p.m, St. Genevieve vs. Village Christian.
