SAN DIEGO — The Moorpark High girls’ basketball team showed off a three-headed attack Tuesday night in an 81-67 victory over Santana High in the first round of the Southern California Regional Division II tournament at Santana.
Point guard Tracey Milburn led the Musketeers (26-3) with 17 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and six steals.
Forward Damaris Hinojosa added 18 points for Moorpark and guard Kelly Jaeger made six of 10 three-point shots en route to 22 points.
The Musketeers’ stifling defense forced 13 Santana turnovers and held the Sultans to 18 shots in the first half.
A fast-paced first half was highlighted by Milburn’s nifty passes and the Musketeers’ full-court press. Moorpark took a 43-26 halftime lead.
The second half was much of the same, with the Musketeer defense forcing more turnovers.
Jaeger hit four second-half three-point shots.
The Sultans (27-5) were led by Paige Sutton and Cori Kimzey. Sutton had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Kimzey scored 22.
But it wasn’t enough to overcome Moorpark’s more balanced attack.
Laura Everett chipped in with 10 points on four-of-nine shooting for Moorpark.
Moorpark made eight of 19 three-point shots (42%) and forced 21 turnovers.
