Coach: Dick Degan (15th year).
1996: 4-1 dual-meet record in the Sunset League.
Key returners: Monique Alvino, Sr., 100, 400; Heather Cuthbertson, Jr., 800, 1,600, HJ; Natalie Hallett, Jr., PV; Kate Homewood, Jr., SP, DT; Michelle McCaslin, Jr., PV; Christine Rinehart, Jr., 100, 100 LH, 300 IH; Katie Rorem, Jr., PV; Jennifer Wootton, Jr., 100 LH, 300 IH, TJ; Amy Yamamoto, Sr., 100, LJ.
Key newcomers: Noel Dula, Fr., 100, 200; Trisha Forni, Jr., 400, LJ; Tammy McArthur, So., 1,600, 3,200; Jennifer Spahr, Sr., 800, 1,600, 3,200.
Outlook: The Vikings look like the team to beat in the Sunset League and could give Mission Viejo and Woodbridge a run for the Orange County title. Cuthbertson, the league’s 800-meter champion, and Spahr, a transfer from Huntington Beach who advanced to the state meet in the 1,600 as a sophomore, are the best 1-2 distance combination around. Rinehart and Wootton are great all-around talents, and the pole vaulting trio of Hallett, McCaslin and Rorem should score in nearly every meet.
