Nobel Laureate Is Accused of Treason

The military government charged exiled 1986 Nobel literature laureate Wole Soyinka and other dissidents with treason over a spate of recent bomb blasts in the country. Soyinka said from California that he was not surprised. The charges came days after Soyinka said he would sue leader Sani Abacha for calling him a terrorist. Soyinka has denied any involvement in the bombings. Soyinka, who opposes the government, fled his country more than two years ago.
