One Accident Too Many Leads Wright to Goggles

Rookie center Lorenzen Wright didn’t know what hit him.

Wright was poked in the left eye by Portland Trail Blazer swingman Stacey Augmon as they battled for a rebound under the Trail Blazer basket with 1:32 remaining in Tuesday’s 109-105 loss at Portland. No foul was called.

“All I know is that I went up for the rebound, I came down and I felt the pain,” Wright said. “I saw a hand coming toward my eye and I shut my eye and somebody hit me in the eye with a finger.”

Wright, who should be able to play in tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns, plans to get protective eye goggles.

“I’ve gotten hit in the eye too many times,” Wright said. “This is my second game getting hit in the eye. They’ll help me see better.”

Guard Darrick Martin, who struggled in Monday night’s six-point win over the Golden State Warriors, missed nine of 11 shots against the Trail Blazers.

“I had a couple go in and out,” Martin said. “Every night isn’t going to be your night, but how you respond is important. I’ll bounce back.”

Coach Bill Fitch said he isn’t concerned.

“If I worried about everything you want me to worry about, I’d have an ulcer,” Fitch said. “I’m not overly concerned. He had a bad night, but we’ve got people that filled in and did well.”
