Napolitano Resigns From College Board

Citing allegations of financial mismanagement, state Assemblywoman Grace F. Napolitano has resigned from Cerritos College’s fund-raising board.
Napolitano (D-Norwalk) said she is concerned, among other things, that college-paid staff may be improperly assigned to work at the school’s foundation. She has not attended the board’s meetings for more than a year. The move comes as she and opponents of college President Fred Gaskin are lobbying members of the state Joint Legislative Audit Committee to authorize a sweeping review of the school’s finances.
“If there is nothing wrong, an audit report will show it,” she said Friday.
The president of the foundation’s governing board, John R. Cassidy, dismissed her resignation and the audit request as political vendettas.
Though it took effect March 5, her decision was first made public Thursday.
