Taipei Youth Orchestra Joins Local Choir

Youth concerts next week will link two cities rarely mentioned in the same breath--Taipei and Duarte.

The 70-member Taipei County Juvenile Orchestra from Taiwan will join 140 student singers culled from Duarte High School and Northview Intermediate School for a free concert Thursday night at the Duarte Performing Arts Center.

The Duarte choir will meet the 5th- and 6th-grade visitors at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday morning and spend much of the day with them as part of a cultural exchange between Los Angeles and Taipei counties. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for both sides,” said Mary Bell, a Duarte spokeswoman.
