Pepperdine Wastes Wolf’s Five-Hitter, 1-0

Randy Wolf of Pepperdine pitched a five-hitter, struck out seven and walked none but took a 1-0 loss to Kansas State in a nonconference baseball game Friday in Malibu.
Wolf (3-2), a former standout at El Camino Real High, yielded a leadoff triple to Garrett Bell in the sixth inning, the only extra-base hit by the Wildcats (11-6). Bell scored one out later on a single by Josh Marn.
Pepperdine (9-14) managed seven hits against Chris Traylor (1-3), who struck out four in seven innings.
David Johnson pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings to earn his seventh save.
Cal State Northridge 5, Gonzaga 2--The Matadors scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit in a semifinal game of the Johnny Quik tournament at Fresno State.
Benito Flores (6-1) of Northridge pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven.
Northridge (21-9-1) advanced to the championship game tonight against Fresno State.
WOMEN’S SOFTBALL
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 5-4, Cal State Northridge 0-2--The Matadors continued to struggle, collecting only two extra-base hits in a Big West Conference doubleheader at San Luis Obispo.
Jennifer Parker had two hits and both RBIs for the Matadors (10-9-2, 3-5) in the second game.
