Early Peak Forecast for Cherry Blossoms
A warm spring has sprung a surprise on Washington, D.C., where the renowned cherry blossoms are expected to reach their peak sometime between Thursday and March 29. Normally, they peak in early April. Unseasonably high night temperatures, which were recently running about 40 degrees, have pushed the schedule ahead, the National Park Service said.
The annual, two-week National Cherry Blossom Festival, which includes cruises, tours, sports and other events, is still scheduled to start March 30.
