Latinos Ask for More Federal Jobs

Armed with a government report showing Latinos as the most underrepresented group in the federal civilian work force, Latino leaders called on President Clinton to increase the number of Latinos in his administration. At a news conference, Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles), chairman of the 17-member Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and representatives from several Latino advocacy groups pointed to a recently completed Government Accounting Office study reporting that while Latinos constitute 10% of the population, they account for less than 6% of the civilians employed by the federal government.
