HUNTINGTON BEACH — Comet Hale-Bopp and a near-total lunar eclipse will be the highlights of a “star party” tonight at Golden West College in Huntington Beach.
The 3 1/2-hour eclipse will begin at 6:58 p.m., and the comet will be visible after sunset. Golden West faculty and members of Orange County Astronomers will set up telescopes at the northwest corner of the campus from 6 to 10 p.m. for the public.
The 620-member Orange County Astronomers has arranged three other viewing sites for the event: Carl Thornton Park in Santa Ana, Crown Valley Elementary School in Laguna Niguel and the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton.
Golden West College is at McFadden Avenue and Golden West Street.
