Comet, Eclipse Are Star Attractions

Comet Hale-Bopp and a near-total lunar eclipse will be the highlights of a “star party” tonight at Golden West College in Huntington Beach.

The 3 1/2-hour eclipse will begin at 6:58 p.m., and the comet will be visible after sunset. Golden West faculty and members of Orange County Astronomers will set up telescopes at the northwest corner of the campus from 6 to 10 p.m. for the public.

The 620-member Orange County Astronomers has arranged three other viewing sites for the event: Carl Thornton Park in Santa Ana, Crown Valley Elementary School in Laguna Niguel and the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton.
