Gate-Crasher’s Oscar Preview Flops

He says he’s attended six Super Bowls and 25 World Series games without a ticket, but a tuxedoed man who wrote the book on gate-crashing couldn’t freeload on Oscar.

The usher’s nemesis, Scott Kerman, 31, whose book is called “No ticket? No problem!” and who put out a press release boasting he could crash the Academy Awards, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of sneaking into the Shrine Auditorium, where the ceremony will be held today. Police were unsure whether Kerman was making a test-run at sneaking into Hollywood’s international glamorcast.

Officers said it didn’t appear he was planning to hide out overnight and then try to mix in with the stars today. “They were just looking for me,” he told the Associated Press by phone from jail Sunday. “They had my picture,” he added, noting that a security firm had posted his photo throughout the venue.

Kerman’s black-tie attire apparently allowed him to glide along the red-carpeted sidewalk and through the front door of the Shrine. But security guards questioned him in the lobby. He was handed over to off-duty Los Angeles police officers who were also providing security for the event.
