Cal State Fullerton Routs UC Santa Barbara

After three scoreless innings, Cal State Fullerton came alive to score 15 runs in the next four innings and defeat UC Santa Barbara, 18-11, in a Big West Conference baseball game Sunday at Goleta.

UC Santa Barbara was leading, 6-0, at the end of three innings.

Titan catcher Mike Lamb was three for four with four runs batted in. Lamb also had a home run in the fifth inning.

Former Irvine High standout Scott Seal had three RBIs and the Titans’ other home run, which also came in the fifth inning.

Dustin Spencer, who came on in the fifth to relieve pitcher Scott Hild, got his first win of the season.

Pete Fukuhara and Jojo Hernandez each had two RBIs for the Titans (18-13).

Bryan LaCour led UC Santa Barbara (12-16) with five RBIs and a home run.

In another Big West Conference baseball game:

Long Beach State 9, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 4--Paul Day had three hits, scored three runs and had four RBIs to lead Long Beach State.

The 49ers won their ninth consecutive game in sweeping the three-game series. Long Beach State (17-11) leads the Big West South Division with an 8-1 record.

The 49ers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first. They added two in the second in an inning with the help of three Mustang errors.

Matt Priess, a senior catcher, hit a home run in the fourth, his eighth of the year. Day hit a home run in the fifth.

Long Beach starter Iran Barrera improved to 3-1, giving up nine hits and striking out eight.

In the championship finals of the PONY Invitational softball tournament at Cal State Fullerton:

Oklahoma 4, Oregon State 1--Casey Dickson doubled and hit a home run in Oklahoma’s victory. Oregon State, which eliminated Cal State Fullerton in a quarterfinal game Saturday, got its only score from Tarrah Beyster, who hit a home run in the fourth inning.
