Matadors Lose Again in Hawaii Tournament

Cal State Northridge lost its second consecutive game in the University of Hawaii baseball tournament, falling to Nebraska, 4-3, Tuesday in Honolulu.

Abe Garcia singled in Francis Collins with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie.

The Matadors (21-12-1), ranked 24th in the nation, tied the score, 3-3, in the fifth when Adam Kennedy tripled in Terrmel Sledge and scored on a single by Jose Miranda, who was three for four.

Benny Flores (6-2) was the loser despite pitching an eight-hitter. He had won in his previous four starts.

Collins had an inside-the-park home run on the first pitch of the game for the Cornhuskers (15-14).

In a late game Monday, the Matadors gave up seven runs in the bottom of the seventh and lost, 12-11, to Washington. Umpires called the game at the end of the seventh because of a three-hour time limit.

Kennedy hit his 17th home run of the season against Washington.

Northridge plays Hawaii tonight.
