Free Sand Available for Storm Preparation
- Share via
Sandy remnants of sculptured sharks, stingrays, sea snakes and whales are still available for those preparing for another ocean creature--El Nino.
Orange County Fair officials this week extended the sand giveaway until Dec. 31 for residents seeking to fill bags for expected winter storms.
The sand was used in a 1,000-ton, tropic-themed sculpture that decorated the 1997 summer fair. Remains stand in front of the Fairgrounds Administration Building, and the public is invited to dig in and take up to 50 bags per person between noon and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Residents must bring their own bags and shovels.
The fairgrounds are at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. Information: (714) 708-1543.
